Cooling Tower Working Principle

A cooling tower removes excess heat from industrial processes or HVAC systems through evaporative cooling.

  1. Hot Water Inlet: Warm water from equipment or chillers enters the tower.

  2. Water Distribution & Spraying: Spray nozzles evenly distribute water over the fill media, increasing surface area for better cooling.

  3. Air Circulation (Evaporative Cooling): A fan pulls in cool air, which interacts with falling water, causing partial evaporation that removes heat. Warm, moist air is expelled from the top.

  4. Cold Water Collection & Recirculation: The cooled water collects in a basin and is pumped back into the system.

  5. Blowdown/Bleed-Off: A portion of water is discharged to remove impurities, preventing scaling and ensuring efficiency.
